Yoga is designed to promote energy flow in all of the energy channels of the body, but it is most concerned with the energy channels that flow along the pathway of the spine. When the spine is not correctly aligned, there are obstructions in the energy channels and the energy cannot flow as it should.
Divine Alignment can be experienced when we maintain a correct alignment of the spine while we practice Yoga. We are often told to sit with a "straight spine", but the spine, when correctly aligned, only feels straight. What we feel as "straight-ness" is only the feeling that the energy can move in a straight path. The spine itself is a series of balancing curves whose relationship must be maintained so that the energy pathway remains connected from the base of the spine to the top of the head.
Divine Alignment is about working in harmony with the design of the body. It seeks to prevent misalignment through training and strengthening inner muscles to correctly support the spine. This allows us to use the appropriate muscles to hold a posture and enables us to relax unnecessary tension. Divine Alignment encourages the maximum utilization of the major joints in the body, the shoulders and hips, so that the spine can remain as much in alignment when it is bending forward or bending backward as when it is held erect.

Guru Prem Singh Khalsa is a Yoga Teacher and has been teaching Kundalini Yoga for over 25 years, he is certified by the Kundalini Research Institute as a Trainer of Teachers of Kundalini Yoga. He travels throughout the world teaching the principles of Divine Alignment to students of all types of Yoga. He has had a Yoga therapy / therapeutic massage practice for 25 years at the Khalsa Medical Clinic in Beverly Hills, CA. He began his physical study at a young age, when he was seven, he self-enrolling in a gymnastics class! He continued to study gymnastics thru high school and then went to USC on a gymnastics scholarship. After college he taught gymnastic for many years and also started his study of Yoga. He has studied and taught many forms of yoga and continues a dedicated practice of Kundalini and Ashtanga Yoga.
